CAMP RULES


 The Scout Oath and Law are in effect at all times. The Camp Ranger, Reservation Program Coordinator or Campmaster may, for violation of camp policies, dismiss individuals, units or groups from camp.

  • Units will check in at Reservation Headquarters and provide a complete roster to include youth and adults.
  • Vehicles are to be parked only in designated parking areas. Please lock your vehicle.
  • The MAXIMUM speed on the reservation is 10 mph. Drivers must exercise extreme caution at all times. No one may ride in the bed of a pick up truck.
  • To assure the safety of the units/groups at camp and to minimize the impact on the environment and trails, only one vehicle at a time will be permitted to go to the campsite to unload. All vehicles must be returned to the designated parking areas. No vehicles will be kept at the campsite.
  • All units will maintain two-deep leadership and meet National Youth Protection requirements.
  • All trash must be place into the dumpsters prior to clearing camp.
  • Use your assigned camp site; all other campsites and buildings are off limits.
  • Quiet time is 10:00 p.m.
  • Check-in officially is Friday night from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. All units/groups must check in at Reservation Headquarters (Camp Saffran), regardless of where you are camping for the weekend. If you need to check in earlier or later, please contact a Ranger or Reservation Program Coordinator. Early or late check-in may be a problem if the camp staff is not informed.
  • Check-out time is no later than 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Units must clear their site by a ranger or campmaster before departing.
  • Units leaving facilities in an unsatisfactory condition may be assessed a fee for cleaning and/or repairing the facility.
  • All forms of alcoholic beverages, narcotics, depressants, stimulants and drugs in any form are not allowed in camp. Violators will be asked to leave the reservation immediately.
  • Use of chainsaws is restricted to individuals with direct permission from Camp Rangers and who are: (1) a professional forester, (2) a certified arborist, (3) those that have received training in these techniques from the Ranger section of National Camping School, (4) people with written documentation of having other training in these techniques that is recognized by the state or federal government, (5) those that have successfully completed the BSA Chainsaw Safety Training course (No. 20-136).
  • Campfires are permitted only in established campfire rings in each campsite.
  • No standing trees may be cut. Any dead fall located on the reservation may be used for firewood.

 

 

Off-Limit Areas

 

  • Dam and bridge. The use of the bridge is reserved for camp vehicles only. Scouts and Scouters may walk over the bridge for hiking to other areas of the reservation, except after dark. No fishing off the bridge. The dam and area immediately below and/or to the sides of the dam are strictly off limits.
  • Rangers and Reservation Program Coordinator homes and grounds.
  • Shooting ranges, unless accompanied by a certified instructor.
  • Water towers, pumping stations, and filtration houses.
  • C.O.P.E. course unless accompanied by a certified C.O.P.E. Instructor.
  • Lake Straus. The lake never freezes over and can be dangerous.

Emergency Procedures 

Accidents and Emergencies

Minor accidents may be treated as “First Aid” in your campsite. When in doubt, check with the Camp Ranger or report to Reservation Headquarters.

Major Accidents and Emergencies

Please notify the Camp Ranger or Reservation Headquarters immediately. Present all facts known. Do not make statements to any outsider and refer any inquiries from the press to the Council Office.

Flooding

Seek high ground and shelter, if possible, immediately. In case of flood warning, we will keep you advised so that evacuation can take place if necessary.

Lost Camper

Unit leaders should be aware of the approximate locations of all Scouts at all times. Periodic head counts are suggested. If a Scout is missing following a search of the camp site, notify Reservation Headquarters.

Other

Treat any other emergency not covered with common sense, and take the appropriate action. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Camp Rangers or Campmasters.

 

Hand Washing

Due to the primitive nature of facilities at camp, it is of critical importance that all camp leaders work to ensure that campers are following good hand-washing procedures. Signs are posted at all restrooms and hand-washing stations. Please reinforce the importance of hand-washing within your campsite. Keeping camp safe and sanitary is everyone’s responsibility.
