Camp Spencer Facilities

Dining Hall

The dining hall and kitchen are available for large groups, and district and council events. This full institutional kitchen is equipped with a walk-in refrigerator and freezer, two Vulcan propane ranges, brazier (cooking pan), sinks and work counters, ice maker, a large dry good storage area, pots and pans, dishes and a dishwasher. The attached dining room is centrally heated and has a fireplace, indoor rest room (ADA) for men and women, and seating for 180 people. No sleeping is permitted in the Dining Hall. No firewood is provided. Units are to provide the firewood for the duration of their stay. Any dead fall located on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut.

Jacobs Pavilion

This is a large open-air roofed pavilion with 40 picnic tables, fireplace, electric lights, and receptacles. Units are to provide the firewood for the duration of their stay. Any dead fall located on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut. This facility is perfect for a family reunion, a unit get together, or any other day function.

Tent sites

There are ten (10) wooded or open field tent sites available for units or districts desiring to camp during the winter camping season. Each site has an open13 air pavilion. Patrol tables and pit latrines are available for use. Water is nearby at a frost-free hydrant.

Hansen Lodge

This lodge was designed and constructed to ADA standards to serve Special Needs Scouts and volunteers. It is equipped with bunks to sleep 46 (20 ADA), a tiled great room, an institutional kitchen, central heating, a fireplace, and ceramic tile in the men’s and women’s shower and bathroom facilities. The showers, toilets, sinks, doors and handles, 20 beds and entrances are ADA approved. This lodge may be rented by non-handicapped Scouts and non- Scout groups at a higher fee. Brooms, mop and bucket are provided for use in the lodge. A fire alarm and sprinkler system are installed in this facility.

Administration Building

This centrally heated building provides for a maximum of 20 Scouts and leaders. Propane stove, refrigerator, 20 cots, table, chairs and a bathroom are provided. Separate sleeping quarters for males and females are available in this building. A mop, broom, dustpan, and bucket are also available for use. Activity Center (Old Trading Post) This facility provides an opportunity for Scouts in Troop and district activities to gather together. The center is heated during the winter. There is no plumbing in this building. There is no indoor sleeping.

Learning Center (New Trading Post)

This building is used as a conference room. It is equipped with bathrooms, sink and a refrigerator. This facility can accommodate up to 24 people and is perfect for conducting meetings, trainings, and group activities. There is no indoor sleeping.

Campfire Circle (Amphitheater)

An amphitheater with stadium seating, campfire circle, lighting and electricity is available for large group campfires and shows. Reservations must be made with Camping Services and are on a first-come first-served basis in as-is condition. The fee is $1.00 per person for anyone not currently registered as a camper at Broad Creek, or a minimum of $25. No wood is provided. Lights must be turned off and all fires thoroughly extinguished upon leaving the area.

Camp Saffran Facilities

Lodges

Eight (8) lodges, (Susquehanna, Lookout, Conowingo, Flint Ridge, Dan Beard, Frontier, Pioneer and Prospect) are equipped with a propane cooking stove and oven, refrigerator, electricity, two patrol tables, eight benches, cots for 18, an Englander wood stove, three bay sinks, hand sink, counter top, dry food storage area, mop, broom, dust pan, bucket and trash can. A pit latrine and frost-free hydrant are located on site. One night’s supply of firewood is provided during the cold months. Units are to provide the firewood for the remainder of their stay and leave the wood crib full on departure. Any fallen dead wood on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut. During the warmer months, hot and cold running water are available in the lodges. The maximum number of campers in the building is 18. Units should provide their own tents for additional campers.

Cole Lodge

This lodge provides cots and indoor eating for 20 Scouts and leaders. It is equipped with a large and complete institutional kitchen, heated in the colder months, with hot and cold water, electricity, bathroom, and tables. An Englander wood stove provides heat for the sleeping area. One night’s supply of firewood is provided during the cold months. Units are to provide the firewood for the remainder of their stay and leave the wood crib full on departure. Any dead fall located on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut. The cooking facility allows the unit to prepare meals for groups of more than 300.

Nentico Pavilion

This large, open-air pavilion with roof is located next to Cole Lodge. It can seat about 200 campers at picnic tables. It has a large fireplace and electric lights and receptacles. This facility is perfect for large gatherings either for a weekend or day use for a unit event or picnic.

This building sleeps 10 campers. It is equipped with a refrigerator, electricity, table and chairs, wood stove and an indoor bathroom. No firewood is provided. Units are to provide the firewood for the duration of their stay. Any dead fall located on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut. There are no cooking facilities.

Adirondacks

Four (4) Adirondack buildings, (Friar Tuck, Hawkeye, Jamestown, and Timberline) are equipped with a propane burner top, broom and dust pan, refrigerator and electricity. Scouts and leaders sleep in their own tents. These tent sites are equipped with patrol tables, latrine, and water from a frost-free hydrant. There is no sleeping in the Adirondacks. Each Adirondack site has an activity pavilion.

Campfire Circle (Amphitheater)

An amphitheater with stadium seating, campfire circle, lighting and electricity is available for large group campfires and shows. Reservations must be made with Camping Services and are on a first-come first-served basis in as-is condition. The fee is $1.00 per person for anyone not currently registered as a camper at Broad Creek, or a minimum of $25. No wood is provided. Lights must be turned off and all fires thoroughly extinguished upon leaving the area.

Camp Oest Facilities

Dining Hall

The Dining Hall consists of an institutional kitchen, with propane stove and oven, refrigerator, sinks and counters, hot and cold water, wood stove, pots, pans and electricity. The kitchen has electric heat. There is no sleeping in the Dining Hall. An Englander wood stove is provided for heat. Units are to provide the firewood for the duration of their stay. Any dead fall located on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut. Most units rent this building with the Bunk House.

Bunk House (Administration Building)

There are thirty (30) cots for Scouts and leaders. This building has heated bathroom facilities, along with separate bedrooms. In the winter months, heat is provided by an Englander wood stove. One night’s supply of fire wood is provided during the cold months. Units are to provide the firewood for the remainder of their stay and leave the wood crib full on departure. Any dead fall located on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut. Most units rent this building with the Dining Hall. There are no cooking facilities.

Tent sites

There are eight (8) tent sites with latrine, fire ring, activity pavilion, and patrol tables. Water is located nearby. Units camp using their own tents during the winter camping season. Tent sites are great for overnight or weekend Troop camping trips.

Reiman Pavilion

The Reiman pavilion seats over 200 people with the use of picnic tables. There is a nearby source of water. Electric lights and receptacles are available for your use. This facility is perfect for unit day events, picnics, or family get-togethers.

Houck Lodge

The Houck Lodge has central heat, kitchen with propane range, refrigerator, pots, pans, a dining room/meeting room for 30, and shower facilities. Houck Lodge has indoor sleeping accommodations for thirty (30) people with separate accommodations for male and female campers.
