Camp Saffran Facilities
Eight (8) lodges, (Susquehanna, Lookout, Conowingo, Flint Ridge, Dan Beard, Frontier, Pioneer and Prospect) are equipped with a propane cooking stove and oven, refrigerator, electricity, two patrol tables, eight benches, cots for 18, an Englander wood stove, three bay sinks, hand sink, counter top, dry food storage area, mop, broom, dust pan, bucket and trash can. A pit latrine and frost-free hydrant are located on site. One night’s supply of firewood is provided during the cold months. Units are to provide the firewood for the remainder of their stay and leave the wood crib full on departure. Any fallen dead wood on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut. During the warmer months, hot and cold running water are available in the lodges. The maximum number of campers in the building is 18. Units should provide their own tents for additional campers.
This lodge provides cots and indoor eating for 20 Scouts and leaders. It is equipped with a large and complete institutional kitchen, heated in the colder months, with hot and cold water, electricity, bathroom, and tables. An Englander wood stove provides heat for the sleeping area. One night’s supply of firewood is provided during the cold months. Units are to provide the firewood for the remainder of their stay and leave the wood crib full on departure. Any dead fall located on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut. The cooking facility allows the unit to prepare meals for groups of more than 300.
This large, open-air pavilion with roof is located next to Cole Lodge. It can seat about 200 campers at picnic tables. It has a large fireplace and electric lights and receptacles. This facility is perfect for large gatherings either for a weekend or day use for a unit event or picnic.
This building sleeps 10 campers. It is equipped with a refrigerator, electricity, table and chairs, wood stove and an indoor bathroom. No firewood is provided. Units are to provide the firewood for the duration of their stay. Any dead fall located on the reservation may be used for firewood. No standing trees may be cut. There are no cooking facilities.
Four (4) Adirondack buildings, (Friar Tuck, Hawkeye, Jamestown, and Timberline) are equipped with a propane burner top, broom and dust pan, refrigerator and electricity. Scouts and leaders sleep in their own tents. These tent sites are equipped with patrol tables, latrine, and water from a frost-free hydrant. There is no sleeping in the Adirondacks. Each Adirondack site has an activity pavilion.
Campfire Circle (Amphitheater)
An amphitheater with stadium seating, campfire circle, lighting and electricity is available for large group campfires and shows. Reservations must be made with Camping Services and are on a first-come first-served basis in as-is condition. The fee is $1.00 per person for anyone not currently registered as a camper at Broad Creek, or a minimum of $25. No wood is provided. Lights must be turned off and all fires thoroughly extinguished upon leaving the area.
