Reservation Policy & Procedures
Reservations for weekend camping at Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation will be accepted beginning Sunday, April 25th for the following calendar year. Reservations will only be accepted by paying the required fee and submitting the Short- Term Camping Application. No reservations will be accepted by phone unless a credit card or unit account is being used to make payment. If you mail in the application with the fees and the site is already reserved, you will be notified by Camping Services. You will then have the option of cancelling and receiving a refund or scheduling for another weekend.

Fees
Fees for weekend camping at Broad Creek are based on the sites and facilities used or reserved as well as the number of Scouts and leaders camping. Units, districts and council groups will be charged the fee for each site and facility reserved/used or two dollars ($2.00) per person, whichever is greater. In addition, a one dollar ($1.00) per person per night surcharge must be paid for liability insurance.
Cancellation
Cancellations will be accepted and fees refunded if a request is received in writing at the council office at least two weeks prior to the reserved weekend. Cancellations caused by an “Act of God” as determined by the Council Camping Director or the Camp Ranger will result in a full refund.
Reservation Procedures
February 1, 2010: Council and districts have the first opportunity to make Broad Creek reservations for 2011. This allows us to help schedule our big events that require multiple sites. Districts and the OA will have scheduled their training events, Camporees and theme events, as well as Cub and Boy Scouts overnighters.
March 1 - April 25: Early Registration Period for Special Needs Units. Special Needs units will have the opportunity to make reservations for Hansen Lodge.
Sunday, April 25: All reservations will be accepted on a first come first serve basis at the camp Open House at Broad Creek for the entire following calendar year.

Equipment
Equipment can be borrowed or rented from Reservation Headquarters. Some of the equipment available is:
- Tents or tarps ($2.00 per day)
Cot ($1.00 per day)
Set-up with 3-weeks notice ($5.00 per item) - Pioneering and log sawing equipment
- Limited Patrol and Unit cooking equipment
- Canoes, kayaks or rowboats may be rented for use on Lake Straus or on rivers near Broad Creek ($15 per day per item). Units must provide current BSA safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat certification or equivalent. Prior reservations are required.

You can purchase uniforms, rank patches & insignia, Scout handbooks and merit badge pamphlets, Pinewood Derby kits, crafts, and a variety of other Scout merchandise. Council business, including tour permits, advancement, camp reservations, and Friends of Scouting, will be received here for your convenience. Scout Shop hours are:
- Thursday 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
- Friday 4:00 - 9:00 p.m.
- Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Sunday 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Year Round Showers
Located at Camp Saffran are separate, heated shower and toilet facilities for boys, girls, men and women. These facilities are open all year.
Water
Overview of buildings with water in winter camping season (mid October to mid April):
- Reservation Headquarters – guest restrooms located outside right side rear of building
- Saffran Shower House – showers, sinks and toilets
- Saffran Administration – bathroom
- Saffran lodges – kitchen
- Cole Lodge – kitchen and bathroom
- Spencer Administration – kitchen and bathrooms
- Spencer Dining Hall – kitchen and bathrooms
- Spencer Learning Center/Trading Post – bathrooms
- Hansen Lodge – kitchen and bathrooms
- Oest Administration – bathrooms, no kitchen
- Oest Dining Hall –kitchen, no bathroom
- Houck Lodge – kitchen and bathrooms
During very cold periods, some lodges will not have indoor water.
Recycling
In an effort to follow the Outdoor Code and be conservation-minded, Broad Creek would like to encourage all campers to participate in a voluntary recycling program. Units are encouraged to save and Pack out any bottles, cans and paper used while camping at Broad Creek. Once home, these recyclables can be placed out with your regular recycling. Large blue bags will be available at Reservation Headquarters. The Conservation Committee thanks you for your participation and concern for the environment.

Service Opportunity
$30 Just for Helping…WOW!
Your unit will receive a $30 credit at either the Trading Post at camp or towards your next camping trip to BCMSR. All you have to do is sign up to help clean the year-round Saffran Shower House, located by the pool, during the weekend.
Here is your obligation:
- Sign out the key to the back storage room for cleaning supplies on Saturday.
- Check all trash cans, empty as needed and put fresh liners inside. Sweep all floors and put trash into dumpsters. Restock toilet paper and paper towels as needed. Clean sinks, counter tops, toilets, urinals, hose down floor and squeegee floors dry. Turn off the lights and fill out the clean-up report. This must be done three (3) times during the weekend: Saturday after lunch and before 10 pm and Sunday before noon.
- Report any problems to a camp ranger or campmaster.
- Turn in key to Reservation Headquarters before check-out.
